What We Do

Shared Journeys and Remote Possibilities

Cultural Heritage

I am a freelance consultant anthropologist based in Western Australia who provides cultural heritage services to various clients, such as Indigenous Native Title Prescribed Body Corporations (PBCs) and Indigenous not-for-profit and community organisations. Some of the services I offer include:

  • Conducting anthropological research and cultural heritage surveys to identify, document and protect the cultural values and interests of Aboriginal people.
  • Preparing cultural heritage management plans and agreements to facilitate the consultation and negotiation between Aboriginal groups and developers.
  • Assisting with community engagement in the co-design and delivery of local place-based cultural heritage, two-way learning and arts programs that will enhance understanding and respect for Aboriginal culture and history.

I have a strong background in anthropology and cultural heritage project management and extensive experience working with remote Aboriginal communities in Western Australia. I aim to provide high-quality, ethical, and culturally appropriate services that meet the needs and expectations of the people and organisations I work with.

Project Support

I am a freelance consulting project and program development specialist with a background in Anthropology and Community Development based in Western Australia. I often provide program and project management support services to remote Indigenous corporations and development proponents.

This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Program and Project planning and co-design: including scoping, defining project goals and objectives, outcome and output measures for deliverables, costing and budgets for fundraising, outlining work schedules, and defining the risks of a project from the outset. I regularly develop project briefs, business cases and plans with various stakeholders, including government agencies, community organisations and private industry partners.
  • Project implementation and monitoring: primarily engaged in on or off-site execution and performance of the project plan, managing the project resources to stay on track, communicating with the project team and stakeholders, tracking progress, and resolving any issues or changes during implementation.
  • Project evaluation and closure: an essential task for quality management is assessing the project outcomes and impacts, measuring the project performance against KPIs and the planned objectives, identifying the lessons learned and delivering the final project and acquittal reports with adequate documentation.
  • Project management support and mentoring: I enjoy and provide on-the-job training and mentoring to Indigenous people and Corporations or development proponents on principles, methods, tools, and standards, as well as supporting them in developing their project management capabilities and IT systems and quality management processes.

As a project and program design and development specialist with remote area experience, I understand the importance and costs associated with uplift, travel, and mobilisation for construction companies, trades, government agencies and service providers seeking quality outcomes. Typically, without factoring in these costs upfront through careful planning, the costs, timeframes, and quality outcomes of a project in the implementation stage can go pear-shaped, which costs everyone time and money, which is why planning is so important.

Fundraising Support

I work as a freelance consultant with Indigenous Corporations and grant applicants to co-design and implement fundraising strategies. I provide the following assistance:

  • Working collaboratively with the clients to understand their needs, goals, and vision and to design projects and programs that align with their objectives and aspirations.
  • Conducting research and analysis to identify potential funding sources, such as government grants, philanthropic foundations, corporate sponsors, and crowdfunding solutions.
  • Assisting clients in preparing and submitting high-quality grant applications demonstrating their projects’ and programs’ feasibility, impact, and sustainability.
  • Providing support and guidance throughout the grant cycle, including monitoring and reporting on the progress and outcomes of their projects and programs.
  • Mentoring and support to help build an organisation’s capacity and skills in fundraising and grant writing, such as developing supporting documents and communication strategies.
